Angelina, the best place in town for hot chocolate
Any visit to Paris would not be complete without a stop at Angelina, a tea salon notorious for its velvety rich hot chocolate.
First established back in 1903 and located in the arcades of the Rue de Rivoli in the 1st Arrondissement of Paris, directly across from the Tuileries, Angelina is a favorite venue of both local Parisians and tourists alike. Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel are said to have been regulars, while fashion designer Vera Wang listed the salon as one of her favorite guilty pleasures.
Inside, the belle époque tea room looks like your typical Parisians cafes with its gilded-mirrors but its specialty, the Chocolat Africain (African hot chocolate) is everything but your everyday powdered Nestle’s hot chocolate. Served in a teapot filled with melted milk chocolate and a coupe of freshly made Crème Chantilly (whipped cream) on the side, the signature drink is the best treat one can dream of, especially before or after a visit to the nearby Louvre museum.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, 8am through 7pm, the place also offers some excellent pastries, such as a meringue with chestnut puree (Mont Blanc), salads and quiches.
